Sister Maria Luisa Vera

Sister Maria Luisa, who will celebrate her 50-year jubilee this year, has mostly recently served Laredo as President of Mercy Ministries of Laredo. She has served on many committees that work to make our community healthier. She also takes part in a monthly distribution of food and goods to patients from mercy clinic and casa de Misericordia. She began her career at Mercy Hospital in Laredo and did parish work at San Martin de Porres church. She then served in various leadership roles with the Sisters of Mercy including serving as President of the St. Louis Regional Community.

“I was honored to be in the company of previous recipients such as Sisters Rosemary (Welsh) and Adele (Fuchs) and other community leaders such as Dr. Ray Keck and Carroll and Evelyn Summers,” she said. “As a Sister of Mercy, we have a fourth vow of service which is like the fourth leg of a table which keeps it level and balanced so that all may eat from it, pray at it, share fellowship at it.”
